Sizing and Fit Tips

MEASURING

To be sure of your child’s foot size, you should measure your child's feet and compare those measurements to the size charts below. Simply follow these instructions:

•       Find a ruler, a pen, and a piece of paper.

•       Tape the paper to the ground and place your child's foot on it. Gently press down on their foot to make sure it is flat and that their toes are not curled.

•       Draw a line behind their heel and another line in front of their longest toe.

•       Measure the distance between the lines in inches or centimeters, add 1/4" for proper foot growth, and use the charts below to find your child's correct size. Make sure you measure both feet. Do not worry if one foot is longer than the other one, it is quite common. Be sure to use the longer foot measurement for sizing.

SIZE CHARTS

Below you will find a list of size charts for each Brand.  Once you have selected a style of shoe you want to purchase and you have your child's measurements, check the chart for that brand.  It will give you the sizing information you need.  Please note that not every size is offered in every shoe for every brand.

TIPS FOR FITTING SHOES ON LITTLE FEET

•       Children’s feet change and grow as they age.  Measure your child’s feet frequently, ESPECIALLY before buying new shoes.

•       In many cases, both feet are not the same size.  Be sure to measure both feet and buy for the larger foot.

•       Typically, add ¼” to a child’s size.  Their feet grow at what feels like lightning speed.  You do not want cramped toes as your child's foot bones form. If your child's foot length puts them exactly at or close to a particular size, we suggest you order the next size up.

•       Buy shoes that do not need a “break-in” period. Shoes should be comfortable immediately. Before your child wears their new shoes, make sure to have your child try the shoes on with socks or tights if that’s how they’ll be worn.

•       Handing down footwear is never recommended.  Every child’s foot is unique, so when a shoe size fits one child at a particular age doesn’t mean it will fit another of that age/size the same way. Also, sharing shoes can spread fungi (ie. athlete’s foot, nail fungus, etc).

•       Occasionally examine the heels of your child’s worn shoes. Children may wear through the heels of shoes quicker than outgrowing shoes themselves. Uneven heel wear can indicate a foot problem that should be checked by a podiatrist.
